February 19, 2010
BAHF, Inc. (Big Apple Hockey) and Field Hockey America are excited to announce a new joint venture, partnering the Big Apple International Championships with Field Hockey America’s Indoor Club Championships in 2011.
This International Indoor Premier Championship will be hosted at the Sportsplex in Feasterville, PA on February 19 - 20, 2011 (President’s Day Weekend).
This joint venture brings together two premier events under one roof. It is also a benchmark collaboration in creating a domestic event that parallels premier international club competitions with both the youth and adult sector represented in a championship format on one championship weekend.
“Field Hockey America is beyond thrilled to partner with the Big Apple International Indoor Event and be a part of this prestigious New Premier Indoor Event. While we have established the National Indoor Club Championships for 3 years now, partnering with the BAHF, Inc. will certainly add shine and significance to our youth championships associated with the Big Apple Hockey. Nigel Traverso brings great leadership and organization to anything he does and most impressively he brings his passion to do it right by each and every participant. He makes no compromises when it comes to the player and sets and upholds a standard for all staff, umpires, scorekeepers, and event interns. I look forward to working with him and launching this new event and new era of indoor field hockey in the US.” Tina Reinprecht, Field Hockey America.
“BAHF, Inc. (Big Apple Hockey) is proud to form this partnership with Field Hockey America, to create an International Indoor Championship like no other. Both Tina and I, as represented by our individual organizations, promise to maintain the high level of competition and organization that you all have come to know and expect.
Tina and I are very committed to putting our knowledge, expertise and resources in to making this Indoor Championship weekend a remarkable and unforgettable experience for all!” Nigel Traverso, BAHF, Inc. (Big Apple Hockey).
BAHF, Inc. (d/b/a Big Apple Hockey) an organization formed out of the need for more competitive and quality field hockey on the East Coast. To this end the primary focus was championing its events under its umbrella to provide top level clubs, venues to showcase their skills in a fun and festive atmosphere within local communities where the sport is lesser known.
As such, BAHF, Inc. embarked on a campaign to build up three respective events – Big Apple Hockey Festival, Big Apple International Indoor Championship and Memorial Six-A-Side Tournament to a level that would be the benchmark of Club and Tournament Hockey locally and globally. With this goal in mind, the following are our current events:
Big Apple Hockey Festival:
This event started in 1998 on Labor Day weekend and was meant to be our showcase event bringing together men and women teams from all over the world as well as some of the top Umpires from across the globe. The success of this event attracted the interest of the Mayor of New York City office and the New York City Sports Commission and a partnership was formed making it a Mayor’s Cup. After ten plus successful years, attracting clubs from Austria, Barbados, Bermuda, Canada, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Holland, India, Pakistan, Poland, Russia, Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, Ukraine and other top hockey playing nations, we were forced to make the decision to suspend this event in 2011 until further notice.
The Organizing Committee is looking at different ways to renew the interest in this event as the economy starts to improve.
International Indoor Championship:
This Tournament has essentially grown out of the need for hockey during the sport’s winter recess. BAHF, Inc.’s initial step was to expand the International Indoor event. Key locations were researched and partnerships considered. Finally, BAHF, Inc. and Field Hockey America created a partnership which presents to the Field Hockey Community a true International flair across differing age groups. International teams compete in a three (3) tiered Indoor arena under FIH Indoor rules and are exposed to differing styles of play. This partnership now showcases Men, Women and Collegiate Divisions as well as Under 14, Under 16 and Under 19 Girls Divisions.
Competition is usually held the weekend before Ash Wednesday (Presidents weekend).
Memorial Six-A-Side:
The Memorial Six-A-Side Hockey Tournament flourished from the recent passing of some of our most beloved hockey players. The Challenge trophy in both Men and Women Divisions emboldened with the names which we will never forget stands as a tribute to hockey players all over the world and shall live on in their memory. Additional Divisions include Under 14, Under 16 and Under 19 Girls Divisions. The competition, held over the Memorial Day weekend in New York City, is only appropriate as a token of our heartfelt condolences.
BAHF, Inc. is the face for the three Directors who year after year work to bring you world class events. We are:

Additionally, we are supported by numerous Umpires (International and US Based), Volunteers and Sponsors, but most importantly the players and parents who year after year represent the light that shines for all to see and thus make these Events Top Level.
Thank you for your support!!!
